Familes that are not able to afford an adequate supply of clean diapers ofen must leave their babies in a single diaper all day which can lead to diaper rash and other health issues.
Babies exposed to a stressful environment for long periods are negatively affected both emotinally and physically
Excessive crying, often the result of diaper rash or discomfort, is the number one cause of child abuse.
Nonprofits working with families and individuals consistently list diapers as an ongoiong and high priority need.
Government subsidies such as SNAP (food stamps) cannt be used to buy diapers or hygiene supplies.
A baby needs 10 to 12 diapers a day and a toddler needs up to 8 diapers. Wtih a cost between $100 and $120 a month, diapers are an expense that many families struggle to afford.
Why Period Supplies?
Whatever you call it, it's a natural part of life for half the world's population.
Menstruation is costly. Not only are tampons and pads roughly $7 a box, but in many states they are taxed.
menstrual hygiene products are rarely donated to shelters and food banks. They are ofent forgotten and overlooked as being an essential, basic material need for people who have periods.
Like diapers, tampons and pads are not covered by an assistance program.
Without access to tampons and pads, some are forced to use makeshift alternatives and are at increased risk for health complications.
